The CW - The Carrie Diaries, Nikita and Beauty And The Beast renewed, Cult cancelled - Ratings, Cancellations and Renewa

Updated on May 18, 2013
Source

From now on, I will be posting TV Ratings, Renewal and Cancellation updates and Reviews on my own website.

This hub discusses the ratings of TV shows that air on The CW and what this means for the future of these shows. It contains lists of The CW's latest likely and official cancellations, pick-ups and new and returning shows' premiere dates. If a show is picked up this means it will get a full season (22 episodes) instead of the usual 13 episodes a new show starts with. For shows with a full season (because of the pick-up or because it returned for a second season), the 2013 ratings have more influence on their renewal chances than the 2012 ratings.

After the lists there's a graph with the adults 18-49 ratings from all current The CW series. All of these shows are discussed individually below that; what are the ratings and what has the future in store for this show?

What do you think of these The CW shows? Which ones do you think should get another season, and which ones should definitely not return? Let me know in the comments section!

Beauty and the Beast (Renewed)

(05/10): Another rating of 0.5 for 'Beauty and The Beast' and a total viewer count of 1.29.

(05/03): Another steady rating for 'Beauty and The Beast', this week's rating is a 0.5 in the all important demo. In total 1.23 million people tuned in.

(04/27): Just like NBC, The CW decided yesterday to renew some of its shows. 'Beauty and The Beast' as well as 'Hart Of Dixie' are renewed for a new season. The 'Vampire Diaries' spinoff 'The Originals' has been ordered to series.

(04/26): Ratings for 'Beauty and the Beast' dropped slightly, with a rating of 0.5 for this week's episode. Total viewers was 1.24 million.

(04/19): 'Beauty and the Beast' is still steady at an 0.6 in adults 18-49. Total viewers went up by almost 100,000 to 1.59 million. Being the most steady and highest rating of the three shows battling for the (most likely) two spots on the Fall 2013 schedule, 'Beauty And The Beast' is likely to be renewed.

(03/29): A steady rating for 'Beauty and the Beast', with another 0.6 in adults and a total of 1.50 million viewers for this week's episode, making it a Likely Renewal.

(03/22): 'Beauty and the Beast' gained one tenth after several weeks getting a rating of 0.5. This week's rating is a 0.6 in the adults 18-49 demo and 1.72 million people tuned in.

(03/15): 'Beauty and the Beast' got a rating of 0.5 in the all important demo, just like the previous couple of episodes. A total of 1.43 million people tuned in.

(02/22): This week 'Beauty and the Beast' has another 0.5 in the adults 18-49 demo and 1.52 million people tuned in.

(02/15): 'Beauty and the Beast' dropped another tenth in the ratings, bringing it to a 0.5 in adults 18-49. A total of 1.40 million people tuned in.

(02/08): Dropping a tenth in the ratings to an 0.6 and 1.48 million viewers, this marks the first time that 'Beauty and the Beast' goes lower than 'The Carrie Diaries'. Throw 'Hart Of Dixie' in there as well, and this will be a very interesting spring. Which ones will survive?

(02/01): This week, 'Beauty and the Beast' managed to match last week's rating with another 0.7 in the coveted demographic. With 1.72 million, total viewers was a little lower than the previous episode.

(01/25): It's been a while since 'Beauty and the Beast' was on TV, six weeks to be precise. The show got back with a pretty good rating of 0.7 in the all important demo. In total 1.79 million people tuned in.

'Beauty and the Beast' started off strong with a 1.2 in the adults 18-49 demo and 2.78 million viewers for the first episode. After the pilot the ratings dropped down, averaging a 0.6 rating and 1.7 million viewers over the following episodes. After five episodes The CW ordered a full season for the show.

Even though these ratings have earned 'Beauty and the Beast' a Full Season Pick-Up it doesn't mean it is a Likely Renewal as well. These ratings will not earn 'Beauty and the Beast' this title, but their is still plenty of hope. If the ratings don't drop and maybe even get a bit higher this show might be renewed, otherwise this show will likely be tossed in the Cancellation-bin.

The Carrie Diaries (Renewed)

(05/09): Contrary to what I expected, 'The Carrie Diaries' has been renewed. This can mean two things; either 'Hart Of Dixie' will be cancelled, or both the shows will be renewed along with the renewed 'Beauty and the Beast'.

(04/17): 'Hart Of Dixie' returned with ratings higher than 'The Carrie Diaries'. Most likely, two out of 'Beauty And The Beast', HOD and TCD will be renewed. Since it is currently the lowest rating of the three, that means 'The Carrie Diaries' is downgraded to a Likely Cancellation. However, 'Hart Of Dixie' did drop a tenth. As soon as it goes below 'The Carrie Diaries' ratings, the roles will be reversed.

(04/09): Another 0.4 for 'The Carrie Diaries' this week, and 1.00 million people tuned in. If 'Beauty And The Beast' and 'Hart Of Dixie' return from their short hiatuses at the same levels as before, 'The Carrie Diaries' will be downgraded to a Likely Cancellation.

(04/02): 'The Carrie Diaries' gets a rating of 0.3 in the all important demo. A total of 0.87 million people tuned in.

(03/26): 'The Carrie Diaries' has another rating of 0.4 in the adults 18-48 demo, 0.83 million people tuned in.

(03/19): This week 'The Carrie Diaries' has a steady rating, this weeks rating is a 0.4 in the all important demo. A total of 1.04 million people tuned in.

(03/12): Another 0.4 for 'The Carrie Diaries', while 1.03 million people tuned in.

(03/05): A steady rating for 'The Carrie Diaries' this week, scoring a rating of 0.4 in the all important demographic. This week's total viewer count is 1.1 million.

(02/16): 'The Carrie Diaries' was even in the ratings this week, with a rating of 0.4 in adults 18-49 and a total viewer count of 1.0 million.

(02/19): This week's episode of 'The Carrie Diaries' dropped in the ratings, scoring a 0.4 in the 18-49 demographic. A steady 1.08 million people tuned in to watch.

(02/12): The rating of 'The Carrie Diaries' is a 0.5 in the all important demo and 1.20 million people tuned in.

(02/05): Adding two tenths or a massive 40%, 'The Carrie Diaries' episode for this week scores a series high at 0.7 in adults 18-49. 1.51 million people tuned in, and the show is thereby back in the battle with sophomore 'Hart Of Dixie' and fellow freshman 'Beauty And The Beast'.

(01/29): Steady just below The CW's scripted average, 'The Carrie Diaries' rated an 0.5 in adults 18-49, just like last week. Total viewers went up by about 100K to 1.38 million.

(01/22): The second episode of 'The Carrie Diaries' got a rating of 0.5 in the all important demo and 1.27 million people watched this episode.

(01/15): The very first episode of 'The Carrie Diaries' aired yesterday at 8/7c. The show got a rating of 0.6 in the adults demo and 1.60 million people watched. A rating of 0.6 is respectable for a show on The CW, but for a premiere a little bit weak. Will the show catch on?

Arrow (Renewed)

(05/09): 'Arrow' of course, gets another good rating. Just like last week the rating is a 0.9 in the all important demo.

(05/02): This week's 'Arrow' went back to its old rating of 0.9 in adults 18-49. A slight drop in the total viewers as well, with 2.89 million people tuning in to watch.

(04/25): After a slight break, 'Arrow' is back with a slightly higher rating of 1.0 in the all important demo, and a total of 3.1 million viewers.

(04/04): 'Arrow' is at a steady series low rating of 0.9 in the 18-49 demo, with 2.92 million viewers, slightly more than last week's episode got.

(03/28): Breaking even with the series low of 0.9 in adults 18-49 this week, the already renewed 'Arrow' dropped to 2.65 million total viewers.

(03/21): No drop for this week's 'Arrow', which got a rating of 1.0 in the all important demographic and a total of 3.02 million viewers.

(03/01): This week's episode of 'Arrow' got a rating of 1.0 in the adults 18-49 demo. In total 3.17 million people tuned in.

(02/21): A drop in the ratings for 'Arrow', scoring a rating of 0.9 in the 18-49 demo. 3.15 million people tuned in to watch.

(02/14): A couple of days after it got renewed, 'Arrow' grows a tenth in the adults 18-49 demographic. The episode rated a 1.1 and got 3.29 million people watching.

(02/11): In a move that is in no way surprising, except for the fact that it comes so early, The CW renews 'Arrow' for a second season. Also renewed today are 'Supernatural' and 'The Vampire Diaries'. The successful freshman series 'Arrow' gave the network the highest rating premiere since 2009, and has continued to deliver in the ratings ever since. No word on the number of episodes, but expect a full 22-episode second season.

(02/07): A slight rise of one tenth in the ratings for 'Arrow'. This week's episode scored a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. With a total of 2.96 million people watching, the viewer count was lower than last week however.

(01/31): 'Arrow' dropped a bit in the ratings, this episode got a 0.9 in the adults demographic and 2.97 million people watched the show. Still a really good score for a show on The CW.

(01/24): A steady rating for 'Arrow' this week; it scored yet another rating of 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic. A total of 3.14 million people tuned in to watch the series, slightly more than last week.

(01/17): The first 'Arrow' episode after the holidays managed to grow in comparison with the show's last original episode. This week's airing got a 1.1 in the 18-49 demo, while 3.03 million people were watching.

The first episode of 'Arrow' got a rating of 1.3 in the all important demo and 4.14 million people watched the show. Amazingly the second episode got the same rating, even though it is common for the ratings to drop quite a bit after the pilot. The current series low for 'Arrow' was only 0.3 lower than the series high, which is a 1.3. Thus the ratings of 'Arrow' weren't just high, they were very steady as well.

After just two episodes The CW made the decision to order a full season of 'Arrow'. A decision that proved to be good since the ratings didn't falter but stayed up. If 'Arrow' manages to keep up these ratings after the winter break this show will almost certainly be renewed, meaning this show moves to the Likely Renewal category.

Hart of Dixie (Renewed)

(05/08): 'Hart Of Dixie' was steady at the 0.5 mark this week. Total viewers inched up to 1.19 million.

(05/01): 'Hart Of Dixie' shows why it's been renewed over 'The Carrie Diaries' by going up in the ratings from last week's series low by 25% to an 0.5 in the coveted demographic. Total viewers was 1.20 million.

(04/27): Not only 'Beauty and The Beast' was renewed by The CW, 'Hart Of Dixie' also gets another season.

(04/24): It looks like I was right in keeping 'Hart of Dixie' a Toss Up last week, as it dropped to a series low 0.4 in adults 18-49 this week. Total viewers was down to 1.1 million, not a series low. The 2012-13 season on The CW gets more and more interesting, as 'Hart Of Dixie' and 'The Carrie Diaries' are now at the exact same ratings levels. If I had to guess, I'd say that 'Hart Of Dixie' has a slight edge over 'The Carrie Diaries', but that is not a lot more than a hunch. Stay tuned!

(04/17): 'Hart of Dixie' drops a tenth in the demo to an 0.5 in adults 18-49, with 1.30 million viewers. Looking at previous seasons, it is very likely that two out of the three 'Beauty And The Beast', 'The Carrie Diaries' and 'Hart Of Dixie' will be renewed. For now, it looks like 'Hart Of Dixie' will be among those two renewals, but since it dropped in the ratings last night, even if it's only a tenth, it stays a Toss Up for now.

(04/10): This week's ratings matches the ratings of the previous episode. The show got a 0.6 in the all important demo and 1.2 million people tuned in.

(03/06): 'Hart of Dixie' still steady at 0.6. This week 1.5 million people tuned in.

(02/27): A steady 0.6 rating for 'Hart of Dixie' this week, with a total viewer count of 1.38 million.

(02/20): 'Hart of Dixie' goes back down to an 0.5 in adults 18-49. Total viewers inched down to 1.37 million.

(02/06): It's back to the ratings of 0.6 for 'Hart of Dixie'. Total viewer count this week was 1.44 million.

(01/30): A small decline in the ratings for 'Hart of Dixie' this week. It scored a rating of 0.5 in the 18-49 demo. 1.32 million people watched the episode. It is fair to say that 'Hart of Dixie' has continued to receive steady ratings this second season.

(01/23): 'Hart of Dixie's episode of last night got a rating of 0.6 in the all important demo. This rating is the same as last week's rating and as most of the other ratings of 'Hart of Dixie' this season. In total 1.45 million people watched the episode.

(01/16): For its first episode after the Christmas break, 'Hart of Dixie' got a steady rating of 0.6 in the 18-49 demographic. It managed to pull 1.37 million people to their TVs. 'Hart of Dixie's fate remains unclear, but for it to be renewed it could use some higher ratings.

'Hart of Dixie' started it's second season with a rating of 0.7 in the adults 18-49. This rating is just two tenths shy of the season low of the first season. The ratings of the second season, however, never did get below this season low. Until now the ratings of this season (except for the first episode) all were either a 0.5 or a 0.6.

It is hard to say just yet whether or not 'Hart of Dixie' will be renewed for a third season, the ratings are still indecisive. However, 'Hart of Dixie' has more chance of getting cancelled than renewed, unlike 'Beauty and the Beast'.

Cult (Cancelled)

(04/11): The CW pulls 'Cult' off the air after seven episodes. 'Cult' has been struggling since the start. There is no immediate plan to air the remaining six episodes. The timeslot will be filled by reruns of 'The Carrie Diaries' and 'Oh Sit'.

(04/06): Adding 50% versus last week, 'Cult' is back up to the 0.2 in adults 18-49 it got before. Since the ratings are so low, it's hard to say how accurate they are, since it might have actually been an 0.14 last week and an 0.16 this week. It is only a matter of time before 'Cult' either gets pulled off the schedule or reaches the legendary status of being one of the few broadcast shows ever to get an 0.0 rating.

(03/30): 'Cult' drops to another series low, this week's rating is a 0.1 in adults 18-49 and 0.61 million viewers. There is no denying the impending cancellation.

(03/23): With another 0.2 in adults 18-49, 0.73 million viewers and no signs of improvement, 'Cult' is now certain to be cancelled. Why? 'Emily Owens, M.D.' doubled these numbers and still got axed.

(03/16): 'Cult' is steady in the coveted demographic. It scored an embarrassing 0.2 in adults 18-49, 0.72 million people tuned in.

(03/09): After the move to Friday, 'Cult' drops a tenth (or 33%) in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic. Now at an 0.2, with 0.68 million viewers, the question is how long before The CW's executives put this show out of its misery.

(02/28): In a desperate move, The CW swaps 'Cult' from its Tuesday timeslot with the Fridays at 9/8c hour of repeats. That means the network thinks that a repeat will get higher ratings than an all-new episode of 'Cult' on Tuesday (and rightfully so). For as long as 'Cult' still manages to stay on the air, it will now air on Fridays at 9/8c.

(02/27): The second episode of 'Cult' was no different from the first, with yet another 0.3 rating and 0.82 million viewers.

(02/20): 'Cult' premiered with an abysmal 0.3 in adults 18-49, while 0.86 million people tuned in. This makes the show a Likely Cancellation immediately. 'Emily Owens, M.D.' premiered with the same numbers, will 'Cult' last as long as that show did?

Emily Owens M.D. (Cancelled)

The medical drama series 'Emily Owens M.D.' has a very bad start with only a 0.5 rating for the pilot and 1.67 millions of viewers who watched the pilot. After this first episode things got only worse, the episodes got an average rating of 0.3. After six grueling episodes of 'Emily Owens M.D.' The CW finally pulled the plug on the show. The last six episodes will air in the regular timeslot.
