6. Statue of liberty on a budget – Grownups
Again; you could dress up your child in this, but I doubt they’ll get the subtle irony of dressing up as an American national treasure on a budget. There is no quick or slow way to do this, there is only the right way.
Take an old gray sheet and cut some tears in it. Make a crown out of gray cardboard and put it on your head crooked. Pin the sheet around yourself in a way that makes it look as if you’ve been living under a bridge (crooked, wrinkled and maybe exposing some skin at for instance the abdominal region). Finally, take a candle and use it as your torch. Be careful with this, it might be a good idea to only light it briefly to show off your costume. You could also decide to use a flashlight or something of the sort.
If you want to take this look all the way, you could paint your face gray and wear some rundown sandals as well.
7. Bathfoam – Grownups/children
If you’re ok with standing all evening, you could go as foam. For the fast version; all you’ll need are white balloons and some white clothing to attach them to. If you want to be able to sit down, I suggest the extensive version, which uses kitchen sponges.
Fast version
Blow up as many balloons as you might need, depending on your posture and the amount of bare skin you want to show. Attach the balloons to your clothing with, for instance, a stapler. To finish it off you could wear a bathing cap or attach a loofa to your hair.
If you insist on being able to sit down, you could also just put balloons on the front part of your clothing.
Extensive version
In this case you will attach kitchen sponges to your clothing instead of balloons. Some stores sell white sponges, but if you can’t find those, you’ll have to paint them white first. When you’re ready to attach them, you can just glue or sow them on, but you could also take some scissors and first cut the edges in a more unsteady way.
When you make your costume this way, it will follow the contours of your body a bit more than with the balloons. If you want to look like a big, puffy ball of foam, you could fill up your clothes or glue multiple layers of sponges on top of each other.

8. Something on the side of the road – Grownups/children
You will have to do a little bit of work for this costume, so there isn’t really a fast version. You will need some dark brown or dark green clothing, leaves (either fake ones or real ones, although fake ones are easier to work with) and some (clean) rubbish like pieces of cardboard boxes and empty soda cans; basically anything you could imagine lying on the side of the road.
The only thing you have to do is glue all the leaves and rubbish to your clothing. Frizz up your hair and put some leaves in it. Take some brown and green paint or make up and smear it on your face to look like you’ve been lying in the gutter.
9. Bedman – Grownups/children
Dressing up as Batman is fun, but dressing up as Bedman is even better! All you need to do is put on your pajama’s, tie a sheet around your neck and slip on some comfortable footwear like slippers. If your sheet is an old one, you can paint Bedmans initial on it (which would be a B). Take a pillow with you to use as Bedmans weapon of choice.
You can spice up the look with a sleeping hat or sleeping mask.
10. Glitter vampire – Grownups/children
This is another one for if you’re really out of time or ideas. The main ingredient: glitter.
Fast version
All you have to do is sprinkle yourself with glitter and put in some vampire teeth.
Extensive version
If you have a bit more time on your hands, you could enhance it a bit by making your glitter vampire a little more old-school. Put in some colored contact lenses, let some fake blood run down the corners of your mouth, comb your hair until it’s sleek and put on some dark make up. If you want, you could also put on an old fashioned dress or suit, but this might be taking it too far, seeing as how the glitter is a Twilight reference and those vampires are nothing like the traditional vampires. Off course, you could also go the opposite direction and for instance dress up like a glitter hip hop vampire.
