NBC - Go On, The New Normal, Deception cancelled, Hannibal still unknown - Ratings, Cancellations and Renewals 2012-13

Updated on May 18, 2013
Source

From now on, I will be posting TV Ratings, Renewal and Cancellation updates and Reviews on my own website.

Here, the ratings, cancellations and renewals of TV shows on NBC will be discussed. First, there's a list of NBC's latest cancellations, pick-ups and premiere dates. Freshman shows usually have a 13-episode order. Most shows will either get cancelled or picked up for a full season. However some NBC comedies will have a 13 episode season regardless of their ratings. Older shows have a full season to start with, which means that they'll stay toss-ups through the Fall season. The 2013 ratings of these shows will be decisive.

Next, you'll find a graph with for all current NBC shows the adults 18-49 rating, and below that, each show will be discussed individually; what ratings do they get and what could that mean for their future?

Let me know in the comments section what you think about the shows. Which ones would you like to see renewed and which ones should be axed right away?

Smash (Cancelled)

(05/12): At the moment only half hour ratings are available. Usually averaging these ratings for a show leads to errors, however, the separate ratings for 'Smash' are still a good indication NBC made the right choice to cancel this show. Both the first and second half hour of the show got a rating of 0.4 in the adults 18-49 demo. The first half hour was watched by 2.14 million people, while the second half hour attracted only 1.87 million people.

(05/10): NBC officially announced the cancellation of 'Smash'. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, unless of course you actually believed E!Online was going to save Smash.

(05/06): 'Smash' gained on tenth in the adults 18-49 demo, bringing this week's rating to a 0.5. In total 2.28 million people tuned in.

(04/28): Yet another 0.4 rating for 'Smash' this week. Total viewers was 1.89 million.

(04/21): A steady and very low rating of 0.4 for 'Smash' this week, and a total viewer count of 1.91 million.

(04/14): 'Smash' dropped even further to an 0.4 in adults 18-49. Total viewers went down to 1.80 million.

(04/08): Yesterday was 'Smash's first episode on a Saturday, as expected the episode got bad rating. 'Smash' got a 0.5 in the adults 18-49 demo and only 1.88 million people tuned in.

(04/03): Last night 'Smash's last episode on Tuesday aired. The show will now air on Saturdays. Yesterday's episode got a rating of 0.9 in the all important demo and 2.98 million people tuned in.

(03/27): With 'The Voice' returning, 'Smash' went up in the ratings to a 1.0 in adults 18-49. However, the show is being shipped off to Saturdays, starting April 6th, meaning that it is effectively cancelled.

(03/20): Dead-show-airing 'Smash' dropped to an 0.7 in the all-important demographic, while 2.66 million people tuned in this week.

(03/15): 'Smash' hasn't been officially cancelled just yet, but starting on April 6th, 'Smash' will burn off the rest of the season on Saturdays at 9/8c. When a show is moved to Saturdays, this means it's not coming back.

(03/13): With an 0.9 in adults 18-49, 'Smash' recovers a little bit, but is with 2.90 million viewers still certain to be cancelled.

(03/06): 'Smash' is now down to a rating of 0.8 and 2.68 million viewers. Can it drop even lower?

(02/27): Another 0.9 rating for 'Smash' this week. The total viewer count is still dropping; 3.04 million people watched this week's episode. Bad news all around for 'Smash'.

(02/20): The 'Smash'-crash goes on, the show is now down to an 0.9 in adults 18-49, with 3.29 million people tuning in. These are horrible ratings, even for the state NBC is in these days, and they make the show certain to be cancelled.

(02/06): Last night NBC aired the two-hour season premiere of the second season of 'Smash'. With a rating of 1.2, this season starts of with a series low. The rating for this episode has dropped 71% and 39% in comparison with the series premiere and first season finale, respectively. The total viewer count was 4.48 million, also a series low.

Go On (Cancelled)

(05/10): NBC has cancelled 'Go On', in contrast to what I expected.

(04/12): Steady at a 1.1 in adults 18-49, 'Go On's season finale will probably not be the series finale. While a 1.1 is in fact not a good number at all, compared to other shows it is ok. Add to that the confidence in the series NBC has been showing and the fact that the network can't cancel all of its comedies, 'Go On' is a Likely Renewal.

(04/05): After last week's big ratings, 'Go On' crashed back down to a 1.1 in adults 18-49 this week. Total viewers went down from 5.12 million to 2.45 million, a drop of 53%. The show has only next week's season finale left to prove that it deserves a second season, and it'll have to do good. If it doesn't, it will likely get cancelled.

(03/27): Greatly profiting from 'The Voice', 'Go On' almost doubled the ratings it got last week. It scored a 1.9 this week, which is about on par with what it scored previously when following 'The Voice'. Next week, it will move to Thursdays, following 'The Office'. What will happen then?

(03/20): 'Go On' hit another series low with a 1.0 in adults 18-49 and 2.87 million viewers. Since next week's episode will be the last Tuesday airing, will a one-time 'The Voice' lead-in give the show enough of a boost to get it renewed?

(03/15): NBC announced that 'Go On' will move to Thursdays starting at April 4th for the last two episodes. 'Go On' will air at 9:30/8:30c. This means 'Go On' won't have the lead-in from 'The Voice' these last two episodes.

(03/06): The ratings of 'Go On' are still steady at 1.1. In total 3.07 million people tuned in.

(02/27): A steady rating of 1.1 for 'Go On'. 3.17 million people tuned in to watch.

(02/20): 'Go On' lost another two tenths, and is now at a 1.1 in adults 18-49. 3.3 million people tuned in.

(01/30): Another 1.3 in the 18-49 demo for 'Go On', which is anxiously awaiting the return of 'The Voice'. The episode had a total of 3.95 million viewers tuning in.

(01/23): After last week's recovery, 'Go On' is falling in the ratings again. The episode scored a rating of 1.3, which is only 0.1 higher than the rating of 'The New Normal' which is now a Likely Cancellation. The total viewer count was 3.97 million.

(01/16): Recovering a little in the ratings, 'Go On' went two tenths up in adults 18-49 to a 1.7, which is still not great, but a lot better than last week's series low. Total viewers this week was just a little higher than last week, with 4.45 million. With this recovery, the show avoids getting downgraded to a Toss Up. What also speaks for keeping 'Go On' a Likely Renewal is that after 'The Voice' returns, its ratings will most likely go up again, and that would ensure the show's renewal, regardless of the current ratings.

(01/09): 'Go On' has made a huge drop in the ratings. This week's episode had a rating of 1.5 in the all important demo, but the previous rating was a 2.4. Its lead-in 'The Voice' will be back in March, by that time the ratings will probably go up again.

The very first episode of 'Go On' was aired twice. The first time was as a sneak preview right after the Olympics, giving the ratings quite a boost. The second time was in the regular timeslot a few weeks later. Together the rating of this episode was a 5.6 in the all important demo and 16.1 million people tuned in. Of course the following episodes had lower ratings, but they still where very high.

The series low is a 2.1 but on average the show had a rating of 2.6. After only four episodes 'Go On' got a full season pick up.

The New Normal (Cancelled)

(05/10) Along with many other NBC also cancelled 'The New Normal'.

(04/12): The final prediction for 'The New Normal' is that it will likely be cancelled because it has been rating lower than 'Go On' for the entire season and hit the 0.7 mark just 3 weeks ago. While it shot up in its last two episodes, that was because it got the lead-in from 'The Voice', and it still did worse than 'Go On' with the same lead-in.

(04/03): Last night was the one-hour season finale of 'The New Normal'. The first episode got a rating of 1.7 in the all important demo and the second one got a 1.4. The average of the episodes was a 1.55 and 3.93 million viewers.

(03/27): 'The New Normal' almost doubled its ratings last night with a 1.3 in adults 18-49, and had 3.32 million people watching. Will next weeks one-hour finale following 'The Voice' be enough to get the show renewed?

(03/20): With a new series low of an 0.7 in the demographic, 'The New Normal' is now down to The CW levels and therefore likely to be cancelled. Still, 2.11 million people tuned in. The show might benefit next week from'Go On', which has the 'The Voice' lead-in. The week after, 'The New Normal' airs an hour-long season finale, leading out from 'The Voice'. Will that be enough to have it upgraded again?

(03/06): Steady ratings for 'The New Normal'. In adults 18-49 it got a 0.9 and 2.44 million people tuned in.

(02/27): Ratings for 'The New Normal' go up slightly this week; it scored a rating of 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic. The total amount of viewers was 2.62, slightly less than last week.

(02/20): After a break, 'The New Normal' is now down to a 0.9 in the all-important demographic. 2.8 million people tuned in. See below why the show is still a Toss Up.

(01/30): Once again a drop for 'The New Normal', going down to a rating of 1.1 in adults 18-49. Total viewer count was 3.08 million. Even though the 'The Voice' lead-in will return eventually, 'The New Normal' already wasn't doing that great when it did have the lead-in. However, it'll remain a Toss Up for now, simply because all of NBC is doing so bad lately.

(01/23): A drop in the ratings for 'The New Normal', which scored a rating of 1.2 in the 18-49 demographic. The episode had a total viewer count of 3.28 million.

(01/16): One week later and 'The New Normal' still has the same trouble attracting an audience. It rated a 1.4 in the adults 18-49 demographic, with 3.33 million viewers, which is almost exactly the same number as last week.

(01/09): 'The New Normal' had some trouble pulling its usual audience this week, just like 'Go On', after both shows lost the 'The Voice' lead-in. 'The New Normal' dropped back 0.4 in the ratings compared to the previous episode, bringing this week's rating to a 1.3 in the adults demo. In total 3.23 million people tuned in.

At the beginning of the show, the ratings of 'The New Normal' where pretty good, with an average rating of 2.2 in the adults demo over the first six episodes. But the following five episodes only had an average rating of 1.7. NBC ordered a full season after five episodes, which at the time seemed like a good idea. But since the full season pick up the ratings have dropped quite a bit and it's uncertain whether the show will be renewed for a second season.

Hannibal (Likely Renewal)

(05/10): Ratings for 'Hannibal' are steady at a 1.1 in adults 18-49. 2.66 million people tuned in to watch.

(05/09): Since 'Deception' just got cancelled by NBC, 'Hannibal' becomes a Likely Renewal again.

(05/03): 'Hannibal's ratings finally came to a halt after dropping 0.7 tenths in just two weeks. This week's rating is almost the same as last week's, a 1.1 in the all important demo. A total of 2.61 million people tuned in. 'Hannibal's ratings are now lower than 'Deception's series low. Meaning 'Hannibal' is downgraded to a Toss Up and 'Deception' to a Likely Renewal.

(04/26): Another drop for 'Hannibal', scoring a rating of 1.0 in adults 18-49. Total viewers was 2.4 million. If the ratings don't go up, this might mean 'Hannibal' will lose the fight with 'Deception'.

(04/19) - 2: Next week, the fourth episode will be skipped in favor of the fifth episode. This is done in the wake of the Boston bombings, because the episode is more violent than usual. The episode will not be aired, look for it in international markets later this year or on the DVD, once it is released. According to NBC, there are no continuity issues.

(04/19) - 1: In it's third week,'Hannibal' drops three tenths or 18% in the all-important demo to a 1.4 in adults 18-49. Total viewers went down by almost a million to 3.50 million. The show's position is a lot less solid than it was before, and that might just be good news for 'Deception'.

(04/12): 'Hannibal' gained one tenth thus got a 1.7 in adults 18-49. 4.38 million people tuned in. This is very good news for the show, because generally second episodes drop in the ratings. Since it was steady and doing a lot better than 'Deception', it's now a Likely Renewal.

(04/05): The series premiere of 'Hannibal' did pretty good in the ratings, for NBC standards. It scored a 1.6 in the adults 18-49 demographic and had 4.36 million viewers. The question (like always) is whether people were just sampling the show or actually liked it. We'll see next week, but for now, things look good. If 'Hannibal' keeps doing good, that might be bad news for 'Deception'.

Whitney (Cancelled)

(05/09): Contrary to what I expected, NBC has cancelled 'Whitney' after two seasons.

(04/12): The final prediction for 'Whitney' is that it will likely be renewed. While it hasn't really been doing good, compared to other shows it's been doing quite OK. NBC has already cancelled or will be forced to cancel a lot of comedies, and they cannot cancel all of them.

(03/28): 'Whitney's one-hour season finale was steady with a 1.0 and a 1.0 in the demo. Total viewers averaged 2.90 million.

(03/21): 'Whitney' drops two tenths, scoring a rating of 1.0 in the 18-49 demo. 3.13 million people watched. If it keeps dropping, it may lose it newly acquired status of Likely Renewal.

(03/14): 'Whitney' drops a tenth this week, rating a 1.2 in adults 18-49. Total viewer count was 3.38 million. Since it has been doing relatively good lately, 'Whitney' is upgraded to a Likely Renewal.

(03/07): Ratings for 'Whitney' went up another tenth, scoring a 1.3 in the 18-49 demo, with a total of 3.83 million viewers.

(03/01): 'Whitney' managed to get one tenth up in the ratings. This week's episode had a rating of 1.2 in the all important demo.

(02/21): At a new series low, 'Whitney' scored a 1.1 in the demo this week. Total viewers was down to 3.14 million.

(02/14): 'Whitney' was steady this week, with another 1.2 in the demographic. 3.59 million people were watching the show. The show is a Toss Up solely because the horrible performances of other series.

(02/07): A drop for 'Whitney', scoring a 1.2 in the 18-49 demo. 3.56 million people watched the series this week.

(01/31): Another low rating for 'Whitney' this week. The episode got a rating of 1.3 in the adults 18-49 demo and 3.64 million people tuned in. 'Whitney' now gets the same ratings as some of the other shows, including 'Go On', whom are suffering since they lost their good lead in.

(01/10): 'Whitney' dropped right back to the low ratings it had before the Christmas break, with a 1.4 in adults 18-49 yesterday. The number of total viewers was 4.11 million. Things are really not looking good for the show.

(01/03): Opposite repeats, 'Whitney' managed to pull in season highs in both the adults 18-48 demographic, a 1.8, and total viewers, 4.96 million.

This is the second season of 'Whitney' and the ratings have changed quite dramatically compared to the first season. The first season started off with a rating of 3.3 in the all important demo. Only two times the show got a rating of 1.4, which was that season's low. This season 'Whitney' also managed to pull a rating of 1.4 just twice, however, this time this ratings is the season high. I think you'll agree this isn't a good sign.

These poor ratings could have something to do with the fact that the show was a midseason replacement, which is quite unusual for a series in its second season. Maybe it happened because of scheduling issues, or maybe it was because NBC noticed this season just wasn't as good as the first. Anyway, the ratings are low, and probably won't keep this show afloat.

1600 Penn (Cancelled)

(05/09): Just like I predicted, '1600 Penn' has been cancelled after its first season.

(03/29): Another double episode this week for '1600 Penn'. It didn't help the ratings though, both episodes got a rating of 0.7 in the 18-49 demographic. The average of both episodes was 1.92 million total viewers. These low numbers make this series a Certain Cancellation.

(03/22): Last night '1600 Penn' aired a double episode. The averaged ratings for those two are an 0.9 in the all-important demo and 2.40 million total viewers, which are series lows.

(03/15): This week '1600 Penn' gained another tenth bringing the total rating of this week to a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 demo. In total 2.23 million people tuned in.

(03/08): '1600 Penn' is steady at 0.9 in the all important demo. In total 2.10 million people tuned in.

(03/01): '1600 Penn' drops two tenths in the ratings, bringing this episode to a 0.9 in the adults 18-49 demo.

(02/22): This week's '1600 Penn' got a series low rating of 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic. Only 2.34 million people tuned in to watch. It seems we are looking at the beginning of the end for '1600 Penn'.

(02/09): Next week's episode of '1600 Penn' gets bumped for an hour-long 'The Office'. While that doesn't scream 'cancellation', it is an indication that NBC isn't all that happy with the show (and they shouldn't be). To get 'The Office' back on schedule, it will be away on Feb. 21st, when two 'Parks & Recreation' episodes will air back-to-back. As of the current schedule, that date is also when '1600 Penn' will return. We'll see.

(02/08): Destabilized by a week of absence, '1600 Penn' drops further to a 1.1 in adults 18-49. With 2.60 million viewers, that means the show is at new lows.

(01/25): '1600 Penn' has finally stabilized, but at a very low 1.3 in adults 18-49 this week. Total viewers is at 3.28 million.

(01/18): Only in its third episode, '1600 Penn' is now down a full ratings point or 45% versus its premiere. This week's episode saw a 1.2 rating in the coveted demographic, and 3.04 million viewers. Not surprisingly, that makes it now likely to be cancelled.

(01/11): While the premiere of '1600 Penn' was able to pull a rating of 2.2, the second episode only got a rating of 1.6 in the all important demo. A drop in the second episode is usual for new shows, but this is a rather large one.

NBC's presidential comedy series '1600 Penn' premiered on December 17th. The episode got a rating of 2.2 in the adults 18-49 demo and was watched by 6.88 million people. This is quite a good start for a comedy show on NBC. The regular timeslot premiere (episode 2) will be on January 10th at 9:30/8:30c.

Guys With Kids (Cancelled)

(05/09): 'Guys With Kids' has been cancelled, just as I predicted.

(03/01): Another tenth up for 'Guys With Kids', bringing it to a 1.1 in the all important demo.

(02/21): 'Guys With Kids' inches up to a 1.0 in adults 18-49, which is apparently quite good these days (!). 2.83 million people tuned in.

(02/14): At a new series low, 'Guys With Kids' scored a 1.0 in the coveted demographic this week. Even though NBC as a whole is performing badly lately, with 2.85 million viewers, 'Guys With Kids' is getting more and more likely to be cancelled.

(02/07): 'Guys With Kids' managed to rise one tenth this week, scoring a 1.2 in the 18-49 demographic and a total viewer count of 3.20 million.

(01/31): This week's episode of 'Guys With Kids' got a rating of 1.1 in adults 18-49, this is a small drop compared to the rating of the last episode three weeks ago.

(01/10): 'Guys With Kids' fell right back down from last week's high rating, now at a 1.3 in the all important demographic and little under 4 million viewers. With ratings lower than 'Whitney', this show's fate is sealed.

(01/04): While all other Wednesday shows on NBC grew to at least season highs, 'Guys With Kids' didn't manage to do so. However it did manage to grow 21% from its last original episode to a 1.7 in adults 18-49. The number of total viewers was 4.39 million

'Guys With Kids' started it's first season of with a pretty average rating. The pilot had a rating of 2.2 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 6.25 million people tuned in. The second episode, two weeks later, showed a drop of 0.6, to a 1.6. From this point on the ratings pretty much went downhill. Only the last aired episode managed to get back up from a 1.1 to a 1.4. These ratings probably won't be enough for a second season but apparently NBC hasn't given up hope, since after eight episodes the network ordered a full season of 'Guys With Kids'.

Source

Up All Night (Cancelled)

(05/09): As expected, 'Up All Night' has been cancelled.

(02/20): 'Up All Night', the comedy that is far more entertaining off-screen than on-screen, has now virtually lost its male lead as well. Will Arnett has signed on to a CBS comedy pilot about a recently divorced man who moves in with his parents, who have their own marital problems (I wonder to what extent this plot is autobiographical). Technically, this pilot is in second position to 'Up All Night', but it shows how little faith Arnett has in the show ever making it to the air again. And who could blame him..

(02/08) - 2: According to Dan Bucatinsky ('Scandal'), who is currently working with Lisa Kudrow on 'Web Therapy', the rumors about Kudrow joining 'Up All Night' are false. Luckily, because it seemed ridiculous right from the start.

(02/08) - 1: Suddenly, predicting 'Up All Night's future became a lot less difficult. Christina Applegate has decided to leave the show. That leaves the soon-to-be multi-cam without female lead, after suffering other major losses when the series creator, showrunner and several executive producers left the show.
It would definitely make the most sense to just drop the show, but there are rumors that NBC still wants to proceed with the show and that they're eyeing Lisa Kudrow ('Friends') as a possible replacement, according to Deadline. If you ask me, Kudrow would be nuts to join such a train wreck.

The ratings of 'Up All Night's second season are way below the ratings of the first season. Things got so bad that NBC decided to change the format of the show. 'Up All Night' used to be a single-camera show, but is being changed into a multi-camera sitcom. The last few single-camera episodes aired on December 10th, the show will return in April or May as a multi-camera sitcom. It remains to be seen what will happen with the ratings after this big change.

Although the current ratings definitely indicate an upcoming cancellation, this show will return to a Toss Up position. It is impossible to predict whether this change will be for the good or the bad.

Chicago Fire (Renewed)

(05/09): Chicago Fire gains one tenth in the ratings, this brings this week's rating to a 1.8 in the adults 18-49 demo.

(05/02): After a short hiatus,'Chicago Fire' returns with a rating of 1.7, the same a 'Nashville' which airs in the same timeslot. The total viewer count was 6.35 million.

(04/26): 'Chicago Fire' has now been officially renewed by NBC for another season. A full 22 episode order has been given, just as for 'Grimm' and 'Revolution'.

(04/04): A slight drop to a rating of 1.6 for 'Chicago Fire', dropping down to the lower regions of its ratings. 6.37 million people tuned in to watch.

(03/28): Having a steady rating, 'Chicago Fire' scored a 1.7 in adults 18-49 and got 6.85 million viewers.

(03/27): NBC is reportedly eyeing a police centered 'Chicago Fire' spin-off. Whether that will happen or not, it is definitely good news for 'Chicago Fire'. It is already listed as a Certain Renewal, so it can't be upgraded any further.

(03/21): A drop of 15% for 'Chicago Fire' this week in comparison with the previous episode which aired on the 27th of February, with this week's episode getting a rating of 1.7 in the 18-49 demographic. 6.39 million people watched.

(03/01): This week 'Chicago Fire' manages to gain one tenth to bring this week's rating to a 2.0 in the all important demo. In total 6.62 million people tuned in.

(02/21): 'Chicago Fire' is still steady at a 1.9 in the coveted demographic, with 6.5 million people tuning in. Currently one of NBC's highest rating scripted shows, 'Chicago Fire' is certain to be renewed.

(02/14): Steady in the all-important demographic, 'Chicago Fire' got another 1.9 in adults 18-49. 6.65 million people tuned in. When looking at the graph above, it looks like the show gets extremely high ratings, but keep in mind that all other shows are performing very poorly lately. Either way, rating way above average makes the show certain to be renewed.

(02/07): A drop for 'Chicago Fire', scoring a 1.9 in the 18-49 demographic. 6.60 million people watched this week's show.

(01/31): This week's episode of 'Chicago Fire' got a rating of 2.1 in the adults 18-49 demo, 7.31 million people tuned in.

(01/29): 'Chicago Fire' gets one extra episode, bringing the total to 23. As usual, this will have to do with scheduling.

(01/10): The only NBC Wednesday show that doesn't lose all of its viewers when a little competition returns, 'Chicago Fire' rated a 2.2 last night, with 8.04 million people watching. That makes it the show's second most watched episode in its existence, after last week's. 'Chicago Fire' even beat ABC's highly-anticipated-but-definitely-no-hit 'Nashville' head to head.

(01/04): The first post-holiday episode of 'Chicago Fire' surged up in the ratings opposite repeats on the other networks to series highs. It got a 2.4 in the all-important demo and total viewers was 8.45 million. This is up 26% and 28% versus its last original episode on December 19th.

'Chicago Fire' started its first season of with a rating of 1.9 in the adults 18-49 demo and 6.61 million people watching. The following episodes had ratings fluctuating between 1.4 and 2.2. On November 8th, three days after the show hit its series high of 2.2, NBC ordered a full season of Chicago Fire. After this order the ratings dropped down to a 1.4 but managed to pull in a 1.9 in two out of the three following episodes.

If the show manages to get some stability in the rest of the season it has a chance of getting renewed. The average rating isn't really bad, however, with unstable ratings like these, it is not hard to imagine that the low points will get even lower. If this happens it will get to a point where high points which are slightly above average won't help anymore. This show really belongs in the Toss Up section because viewers can't seem to decide whether to watch the show or not.

Deception (Cancelled)

(05/09): My prediction was wrong, apparently NBC still has fate in 'Hannibal' since NBC announced 'Deception' wont be back for a second season.

(05/03): 'Hannibal's ratings dropped below 'Deception's series low, as a result 'Hannibal' is downgraded to a Toss Up and 'Deception' is upgraded to a Likely Renewal.

(04/05): The premiere of 'Hannibal' did 25% better than the last couple of episodes of 'Deception'. If 'Hannibal' manages to keep up those ratings, that might be bad news for 'Deception', because it will be NBC's lowest rated not-yet-cancelled drama.

(03/19): Last night the season finale of 'Deception' aired. The episode got a rating of 1.2 in the all important demo and 3.41 million people tuned in. 'Deception' is still likely to be renewed but official news probably won't come until May. The show's fate might also depend on how other shows (dramas, specifically) perform during the next two months.

(03/12): This week's episode of 'Deception' is a 1.1 in the adults 18-49 demo, the same as last week. 3.34 million people tuning in. With these ratings, the show is now a Likely Renewal.

(03/05): A small decline for this week's episode of 'Deception', scoring a rating of 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic, and a total viewer count of 3.35 million.

(02/26): A steady rating for 'Deception', with another 1.2 in the 18-49 demo and a total viewer count of 3.28 million. Because all NBC shows are doing so badly, the show is now a Toss Up again.

(02/20): Tate Donovan (Edward Bowers) has joined CBS pilot 'Hostages' about a family that lands in the middle of a political conspiracy. This is in second position to 'Deception' so if the show continues his role will have to be recast in the pilot, if it gets picked up. However, this does show how much faith the actor has in the show (none).

(02/19): This week 'Deception' got another 1.2 rating in the all important demo, 3.13 million people were watching.

(02/12): 'Deception' managed to rise one tenth in the ratings, bringing this week's rating to a 1.2 in adults 18-49. The show needs to get higher ratings if it wants to live to see another season.

(02/05): Now stripped down to its core audience, 'Deception' was steady at a 1.1 in the all-important demographic. Total viewers did go down by over half a million, to 3.08 million viewers.

(01/28): Even though it has somewhat stabilized this week, 'Deception's 1.2 in adults 18-49 is low enough to be downgraded to Likely Cancellation. With only 3.73 million viewers, chances are this show is not going to last very long. Unless the ratings become very abysmal, don't expect it to be pulled, though, because NBC will want to keep the timeslot occupied until 'Revolution' returns in March (paired with 'The Voice').

(01/22): After the initial drop in the ratings for the second episode, 'Deception' keeps going down. The third episode got a rating of 1.3 in the adults 18-40 demo and 3.61 million people tuned in. If nothing changes next week, the show will become a Likely Cancellation.

(01/15): This week's episode of 'Deception' pulled 4.14 million people in and got a rating of 1.6 in the all important demo. This is 0.4 lower than last week, bringing it below NBC's scripted average and that is not a good sign for the show.

(01/08): The series premiere for 'Deception' got a rating of 2.0 in the all important demo and 5.66 million people tuned in. This is a little low, but the show did win its timeslot.

(01/07): The first episode of 'Deception' will premiere tonight, but NBC already cuts the order for the first season short by two, apparently due to scheduling problems. 'Deception' isn't the only show that loses episodes; 'Revolution' is another victim of scheduling problems.

Grimm (Renewed)

(05/08): On it's second Tuesday outing, 'Grimm' held up well with a post-'The Voice' 1.8 in adults 18-49. Total viewers went a bit up versus last week to 5.67 million. All in all very good news for the show, although it will probably move back to the genre-oriented Friday next season (it has already been renewed!).

(05/01): 'Grimm' greatly profits from its new timeslot, where it skyrockets by 50% to a 1.9 in adults 18-49. The lead-in from 'The Voice' also made the number of total viewers grow to 5.77 million, which is an increase of 22%.

(04/27): 'Grimm's last episode on Friday drops two tenths compared to the previous episode, making this week's rating a 1.3 in the 18-49 demo. Next Tuesday will be the first episode of 'Grimm' in its new timeslot.

(04/26): Just like 'Revolution' and 'Chicago Fire', NBC has renewed 'Grimm' for another season, with a 22-episode order.

(04/20): NBC moved 'Grimm' from Fridays to Tuesdays to the timeslot of the cancelled reality show 'Ready For Love'. Beginning on April 30th, 'Grimm' will air on Tuesdays at 10/9c, directly after 'The Voice'. This will probably result in higher ratings for 'Grimm'.

Last night the coverage of the capture of the Boston bomber resulted in numerous local market preemptions of shows airing in primetime and changes in the schedules. 'Grimm' was either preempted or a rerun was shown. Next week a repeat of 'Grimm' was scheduled but the episode that was supposed to air last night gets a second chance.

(04/06): This week, 'Grimm' went back up to a 1.5 in the demo, with 5.13 million viewers. The show is still very sure to get a renewal.

(03/30): A small decline for 'Grimm' this week, scoring a 1.3 in the 18-49 demographic. 4.86 million people tuned in to watch.

(03/23): 'Grimm' was steady this week with another 1.4 in the coveted demographic. Total viewers went up a little bit to 5 million. Since it is doing so much better than most other NBC shows, even though it airs on Fridays, 'Grimm' is now a Certain Renewal.

(03/16): In its second episode back, 'Grimm' holds up good, losing only one tenth in the all-imporant demographic. This week's episode scored a 1.4 in adults 18-49 and 4.91 million people tuned in.

(03/08): Returning after three whole months, 'Grimm' scores a 1.5 rating in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic. In total, 4.90 million people tuned in. That is a tad lower than the average for the first half of the season, but since all the rest of NBC has crashed and burned in the mean time, 'Grimm' is suddenly one of the networks higher rated shows. Therefore, if it does equal or better next week, it will be a certain renewal.

The second season premiere of 'Grimm' had a rating of 2.0 and 5.64 million people tuned in. On average the 12 episodes before Christmas got a rating of 1.7. These ratings aren't incredibly high, but Grimm airs on Fridays and those ratings are always a bit lower. The average of this season is two tenths higher than the average of the previous season, this means the show will likely be renewed again based on the current ratings.

Revolution (Renewed)

(05/07): After last week's drop 'Revolution' gained two tenths which brings this week's rating to a 2.0 in the all important demo. In total 6.06 million people tuned in.

(04/30): 'Revolution' drops to a series low with a 1.8 in the adults 18-49 demo. A total of 5.49 million people tuned in to watch last night's episode.

(04/26): NBC has just announced 'Revolution' will be renewed for another season. Just like 'Grimm' and 'Chicago Fire' it has been handed a full 22 episode order.

(04/23): 'Revolution' dropped two tents, bringing this week's rating to 2.0 in the adults 18-49 demographic. This week's episode was watched by 5.88 million people, a little more than last episode.

(04/09): Adding a tenth in the demo this week, 'Revolution' now scored a 2.2 in the all-important demographic. Total viewers went down a little, to 6.07 million.

(04/02): 'Revolution' got a 2.2 in the rating this week and 6.36 million people tuned in. Although the ratings dropped by three tenths it's still doing really well.

(03/26): Last night the second part of season one of 'Revolution' started. The episode before last night's episode got a rating of 2.9. This week 'Revolution' got a 2.6 in the adults 18-49 demo. It still seems to be on the right track.

(01/07): NBC announced that the order for season one of 'Revolution' has been reduced by two episodes. The first season of 'Revolution' will now have a total of 20 episodes. Since the show is only returning on March 25th, this makes sure that it doesn't run over into June, a thing regular season shows hardly ever do.

The new show 'Revolution' started its season with a 4.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demo. The second episode the rating dropped down to a 3.4. The ratings kept declining bit by bit but they stayed very high. The average rating of all episodes was a 3.1. There was no way NBC wouldn't pick this show of for a full season, and if the ratings stay the same NBC will definitely renew 'Revolution' for a second season.

Do No Harm (Cancelled)

(04/28): At June 29th 'Do No Harm' will return to burn off the remaining episodes of its first season. However, keep in mind that it is still cancelled.

'(02/09): Even NBC thought that 0.7 ratings are quite low, even for a Thursdays at 10/9c show. 'Do No Harm' is off the schedule immediately and cancelled. The next two weeks, repeats of 'Law & Order: SVU' will air. There is no word on whether (and when) the remaining episodes of 'Do No Harm' will be broadcast. If they will, look for them during the summer.

(02/08): Dropping two more tenths in its second episode, 'Do No Harm' is now at that level that even The CW wouldn't be all that happy with. Scoring an 0.7 in the all important demographic, and with 2.21 million people tuning in, the show is certain to be cancelled.

(02/01): Premiering with an 0.9 rating in adults 18-49, 'Do No Harm' got the lowest in-season premiere ratings on one of the big four broadcast networks ever. With 3.12 million people, the show can be considered dead on arrival. Though leaning towards putting it at Likely Cancellation immediately, I'll leave it at Toss Up for one week.

Animal Practice (Cancelled)

'Animal Practice's pilot aired directly after the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics. No wonder this episode got a rating of 4.1 in the adults 18-49 demo and 12.80 million people tuned in. Unfortunately most of these people weren't impressed by what they saw, because when the show aired five weeks later in its regular timeslot only 5.19 million people were left watching the show, pulling a rating of 1.4. The ratings got even lower and after five episodes had aired NBC decided to pull the plug. The remaining three episodes were not aired but are available on Hulu.
