CBS - Golden Boy, Vegas cancelled; Elementary, Person Of Interest renewed - Ratings, Cancellations and Renewals 2012-13

Updated on May 18, 2013
Source

From now on, I will be posting TV Ratings, Renewal and Cancellation updates and Reviews on my own website.

Here, the ratings, cancellations and renewals of CBS's TV shows will be discussed. First, there's a list of the latest cancellations, pick-ups and premiere dates of CBS shows. Freshman shows usually have a 13-episode order and can get picked up for a full season if it does well. Older shows have a full season to start with, which means that they'll stay toss-ups through the Fall season. The 2013 ratings of these shows will be decisive.

Next, you'll find a graph of the Adults 18-49 rating (Why is that demographic so important?) of all current CBS shows, and below that, each show will be discussed individually; what ratings do they get and what could that mean for their future?

Let me know in the comments section what you think about the shows. Which ones would you like to see renewed and which ones should be axed right away?

Vegas (Cancelled)

(05/11): The cancelled 'Vegas' has a steady rating of 0.9 in adults 18-49 and a total of 7.06 million viewers.

(05/10): Just like I predicted, 'Vegas' has been cancelled.

(05/04): Again dropping in the all-important demographic, 'Vegas' only scored an 0.9 in adults 18-49 this week. Total viewers went down to 7.38 million. Needless to say, the show will definitely be cancelled at the upcoming upfronts. CBS will announce which shows are on its Fall 2013 schedule (and which ones are not) on May 15th, so stay tuned.

(04/27): 'Vegas' shot back up five tenths in the ratings after last week's series low. This week's episode got a rating of 1.0 in the all important demo while 7.5 million people tuned in.

(04/21): A special Saturday episode of 'Vegas' made it lose 0.3 in the ratings. It scored a rating of 0.5 in adults 18-49, and 4.32 million viewers.

(04/13): 'Vegas' lost another tenth, hitting another season low with a 0.8 in the all important demo. On May 10th Vegas' last episode of the season will air, and even though it's not official yet, i'm certain it will be the last episode of the series as well.

(04/06): In its first episode on Friday, 'Vegas' crashed in the ratings, losing more than a third in the all-important demographic. The episode scored a mere 0.9 in adults 18-49. Still, 7.67 million people tuned in, but that doesn't help the show. With these numbers, 'Vegas' will definitely get cancelled.

(03/07): While the show is on a short hiatus, 'Vegas' gets shipped off to Friday nights at 9/8c. Instead, 'Golden Boy' will take the Tuesday at 10/9c timeslot, where it was first scheduled to move to Friday after two episodes. This could mean even more bad news for 'Vegas', which now returns on April 5th.

(02/20): This week's episode of 'Vegas' got a rating of 1.5 in the all important demographic, the exact same rating as the previous episode.

(02/06): A drop in the ratings for 'Vegas' with this week's episode scoring a rating of 1.5, four tenths lower than last week. A total of 10.25 million viewers tuned in to watch. It seems Vegas is back to its former, not so amazing numbers.

(01/30): The rating of this week's episode of 'Vegas' were higher than the previous rating. This episode got a rating of 1.9 in the adults 18-49 demo and 11.23 million people tuned in. This rating is better than the average ratings of 'Vegas' but it's still pretty low compared to other CBS shows.

(01/16): This week's episode of 'Vegas' got a rating of 1.6 in the all important demo, just like last week's episode, and 11.27 million people watched the show. 'Vegas' is certain to be cancelled if ratings don't improve quickly.

(01/09): The ratings of 'Vegas' have remained the same as last year. This week's episode got a rating of 1.6 in the adults 18-49 demo, 10.92 million people tuned in. This isn't a good rating and won't get this show out of the danger zone.

The series premiere of 'Vegas' had the lead-in from 'NCIS LA', but with a 2.5 in the 18-49 demographic this wasn't the best premiere ever. It had 14.85 million viewers in total. The ratings dropped in the following two episodes, but CBS still decided to pick up their second lowest rating freshman show of the season (after 'Made In Jersey') for a full season, which was later cut by one episode to a total of 21.

The following episodes pulled in ratings just over 1.5 in adults 18-48. Total viewers fluctuated around 10 million at the same time. During the winter stop, after having aired 10 episodes, 'Vegas' averages a 1.8 in adults 18-49 and 11 million viewers. On CBS, that makes it a likely cancellation at the start of the second half of the season.

Golden Boy (Cancelled)

(05/11): Just like 'Vegas', 'Golden Boy' has been cancelled.

(05/08): 'Golden Boy' scored another series low, now at a 1.2 in the demo. That is one tenth down versus last week. Total viewers was also at a series low of 6.99 million, over half a million lower than last week's 7.64 million.

(05/01): If it wasn't for the one episode that aired on a Friday, 'Golden Boy' would have scored a series low. This week's episode scored a 1.3 in adults 18-49, whereas the actual series low was a 1.0. Total viewers dropped to 7.64 million.

(04/24): Now dropping to a 1.4 in adults 18-49, 'Golden Boy' will certainly be cancelled. 7.94 million people tuned in.

(04/17): 'Golden Boy' was steady at a 1.5 in the adults 18-49 demographic with 8.07 million viewers.

(04/10): 'Golden Boy' got a slightly higher rating than last week. This episode got a 1.5 in the all important demo and 7.9 million people tuned in.

(04/03): The ratings of 'Golden Boy' dropped by one tenth to an 1.3 in adults 18-49. A total of 7.83 million people tuned in. 'Golden Boy' deserved itself a spot in the Certain Cancellation list.

(03/27): This week, 'Golden Boy' dropped down to a 1.4 in adults 18-49. Total viewers went down to 8.07, bringing the show closer to being downgraded to a Certain Cancellation.

(03/20): Still climbing, 'Golden Boy' hit the 1.7 mark this week. Total viewers went up to 9.26 million. If the show keeps going up in the ratings, it might just be upgraded to a Toss Up.

(03/13): 'Golden Boy' is back up to its previous Tuesday ratings of 1.5, after last Friday's horrible 1.0. Total viewers went back up to 8.53 million, leaving the show more and more likely (and perhaps even already certain) to be cancelled.

(03/09): On 'Golden Boy's one-time trip to Fridays, it lost 0.6 or 38% in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic, going down to a 1.0. Total viewers dropped to 7.41. Next Tuesday's airing will be far more telling, but the signs are definitely not good for 'Golden Boy'.

(03/07): CBS seems to have a lot more confidence in 'Golden Boy' than I do. The network announced that the show will stay in the Tuesdays at 10/9c timeslot, except for this Friday (confusing, right). Earlier, 'Golden Boy' was scheduled to move to Fridays at 9/8c, but 'Vegas' will make that same move instead, now.

(03/06): 'Golden Boy' drops even further to a 1.6 in the all important demo, with 9.4 million people watching. This drop was expected, since a premiere very often does better than the second episode.

(02/27): It's just the first episode of 'Golden Boy', but it is already a Likely Cancellation. The episode got a rating of 1.8 in the adults 18-49 demographic. This is a low rating for an ordinary episode, but real bad for a series premiere. This show does deserve a little slack since it's only it's first episode and who knows, maybe by some miracle the next episode will do much better.

Person Of Interest (Renewed)

(05/10): A steady rating of 2.4 in adults 18-49 for 'Person Of Interest'. 12.98 million people tuned in to watch what was this season's final episode.

(05/03): 'Person Of Interest' scored another 2.4 in the all important demo. A total of 12.96 million people tuned in.

(04/26): The renewed 'Person Of Interest' scored a rating of 2.4, dropping three tenths, and got a total viewer count of 13.22 million.

(04/05): Since it was already renewed solely for the statisticians among us: 'Person Of Interest' scored a 2.7 in the adults 18-49 demographic and got 14.57 million viewers last night.

(03/27): 'Person Of Interest' was renewed by CBS, as was bound to happen sooner or later. Other renewals include 'Elementary', '2 Broke Girls', 'The Good Wife', 'The Amazing Race', both 'NCIS' and 'NCIS:LA', and other shows.

(03/15): This week's rating of 'Person Of Interest' is a 2.9 in the adults 18-49 demo. Just like last week 14.34 million people tuned in.

(03/08): This week 'Person Of Interest' lost another tenth, bringing the rating to a 2.8 in the all important demo. In total 14.57 million people tuned in.

(02/22): 'Person Of Interest' loses another tenth this week, getting a rating of 2.9 in the 18-49 demographic. A total of 14.22 million people watched the episode. It seems the prediction I made last week was right!

(02/15): Over the last few weeks 'Person Of Interest' lost one tenth every week. This week's episode got a rating of 3.0 in the all important demo and 14.87 million people tuned in. Will next week's episode have a rating of 2.9?

(02/08): Steady at a 3.1 in adults 18-49 and with 14.88 million viewers, 'Person Of Interest' is still very likely to get renewed.

(02/01): Another week of good ratings for 'Person Of Interest'. This week's episode got a rating of 3.2 in the adults 18-49 demo and 15.71 million people tuned in.

(01/11): After 'Person Of Interest' got a series high last week, this week the ratings remain high. This episode got a rating of 3.3 in the all important demo and 15.67 million people tuned in. This is still well above the average rating 'Person of Interest' managed to score this season.

(01/04): This week 'Person Of Interest' manages to get a series high with a rating of 3.4 in the adults 18-49 demo and 16.23 million people watching. These high ratings are probably due to the fact that most networks are running repeats.

'Person Of Interest's second season premiered with a 3.1 in the adults 18-49 demographic. It had 14.27 million people watching. The following nine episodes (ten of the second season have aired before the Holidays) were very steady at a rating just under 3.0, with often over 14 million people watching. These ratings make sure that 'Person Of Interest' will see a third season.

Source

Elementary (Renewed)

(05/10): A slightly dropped rating of 1.8 for 'Elementary' this week, with a total viewer count of 9.15 million.

(05/03): 'Elementary' has them same rating as last week's episode. This episode got a rating of 2.0 in the adults 18-49 demo while 9.75 million people tuned in.

(04/26): Upon news of its renewal, some people seem to have stopped watching 'Elementary', resulting in a series low rating of 2.0 in adults 18-49. Total viewers was 10.07 million.

(04/05): The already renewed 'Elementary' got a 2.1 in the all-important demographic and 10.48 million viewers in total.

(03/27): CBS announced the renewal of 'Elementary' today, among 14 other shows, including 'Person Of Interest', '2 Broke Girls', both 'NCIS' and 'NCIS:LA', 'The Good Wife' and 'The Amazing Race'.

(03/15): After two weeks without 'Elementary' the show is back with a rating of 2.3 in the all important demo. A total of 11.33 million people tuned in.

(02/22): Another steady rating for 'Elementary' this week, with a 2.4 in the 18-49 demo and a total viewer count of 11.19 million.

(02/15): 'Elementary's rating is even with last week's episode, meaning it got a rating of 2.3 in the all important demo. In total 10.98 million people tuned in.

(02/08): In its first regular airing after the Super Bowl, it becomes clear that 'Elementary' hasn't managed to profit from the exposure it got last Sunday. In fact, this week's ratings are at the exact same level as before, with a 2.2 in adults 18-49 and 10.84 million viewers. The only thing 'Elementary' has gained from the Super Bowl is a series high of a 7.8 in the demo, but what is that worth if it still might get cancelled?

(02/04): 'Elementary' got awarded the post-Super Bowl slot, which means high ratings. However this edition of the Super Bowl had a power outage of 34 minutes, causing 'Elementary' to start at 11:11pm EST. Therefore it is not surprising that the 7.8 in the adults 18-49 demo and 20.8 million viewers it got are very low compared to other post-Super Bowl shows.

(02/01): 'Elementary' lost another 0.2 in the ratings. This week's episode got a rating of 2.2 in the all important adults demo and 10.8 million people watched this episode.

(01/11): This week's episode of 'Elementary' got a rating of 2.4 in the adults 18-49 demo, 11.48 million people tuned in. The show manages to keep up with the ratings is was able to pull in last year.

(01/04): Not just 'Person Of Interest' did good in the ratings yesterday, 'Elementary' managed to pull in pretty good ratings as well. This week's episode got a rating of 2.6 in the all important demo, which is 0.3 higher than last episode. Total viewers was 11.44 million. We'll have to wait another week so see whether the ratings will drop if the other networks stop running repeats.

CBS's Sherlock Holmes adaptation 'Elementary' premiered with a solid 3.1 in the all-important demographic and 13.29 million people watching. After dropping eight tenths over the next two episodes, CBS still gave the show the nine back order. From that point on, it remained steady around a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 and total viewers just over 10 million.

On average, over its first 10 episodes, 'Elementary' got a 2.4 rating and 10.9 million people watching. This average will probably shoot up later this season, because the show got awarded the coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot (and added two more episodes, to a total of 24). Perhaps that will help the show attract some more viewers, because it definitely needs that in order to earn a second season.

2 Broke Girls (Renewed)

(05/07): '2 Broke Girls' adds one tenth to the rating, bringing it to a 2.7 in the adults 18-49 demo. A total of 7.97 million people tuned in.

(04/30): This week's episode of '2 Broke Girls' got a rating of 2.6 in the all important demo. In total 7.85 million people tuned in.

(04/16): The first episode after '2 Broke Girls' was renewed got a 2.4 in the adults 18-49 demo, a series low rating. The rating dropped with six tenths compared to the previous episode and four tenths compared to the previous series low. This is a huge drop, but this has probably to do with the preemptions due to the coverage of the bombings in Boston.

(03/27): As predicted, CBS renewed '2 Broke Girls'. Other renewals include 'Elementary', 'Person Of Interest', both 'NCIS' and 'NCIS:LA', 'The Good Wife' and 'The Amazing Race'.

(03/26): '2 Broke Girls' did not fully recover from its drop last week. This week's rating is a 3 in adults 18-48 and 8.76 million people tuned in. The ratings are still well above average.

(03/19): '2 Broke Girls' made a big drop of five tenths after a hiatus of two weeks, bringing this week's rating to a 2.8 in the adults 18-49 demo, a series low for the show. Amazingly, this big drop isn't the end of the world for '2 Broke Girls', this rating is just an average rating of CBS.

(02/26): '2 Broke Girls' drops two tenths in the ratings compared to last week. Over the past weeks the ratings have dropped gradually, but '2 Broke Girls' had such high ratings it is still not in the danger zone. This week's episode got a rating of 3.3 in the all important demo.

(02/19): '2 Broke Girls' drops again by one tenth. This episode got a rating of 3.5 in the adults 18-49 demo while 10.25 million people were watching.

(02/12): This week's episode of '2 Broke Girls' got a rating of 3.6 in the adults 18-49 demo, in total 10.90 million people watched the show. The ratings are dropping a bit, but they remain high.

(02/05): '2 Broke Girls' got another 3.7 in the all important demo and 11.36 million viewers.

(01/22): The rating of '2 Broke Girls' dropped a bit compared to last week, but it is still very good. This episode got a rating of 3.7 in the all important demo while 11.56 million people tuned in.

(01/15): The first episode of the year for '2 Broke Girls' did very well. The episode attracted 12.45 million viewers and got a rating of 4.1 in the adults 18-49 demo. This is the same rating as the previous season high.

In its second season, '2 Broke Girls' is doing great in the ratings, just like it did in its first season. This season premiered with a 3.7 in the demo and 10.14 million viewers. It Now that it's Christmas, after airing 12 episodes, the show averages a 3.5 in adults 18-49 and 9.9 million viewers. This makes it an absolute lock for renewal.

Made In Jersey (Cancelled)

'Made in Jersey' premiered with an extremely low 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic. After the second episode, which got an 0.8 rating, CBS had no choice but to yank the show off the air immediately. The rest of the episodes were burned off on Saturdays, where it rated 0.3's.

Source

Partners (Cancelled)

Following the eighth season premiere of 'How I Met Your Mother' with a 3.4 in adults 18-49, 'Partners' premiered with not-that-great numbers at 2.4 in the demo. Last year, freshman comedy 'How To Be A Gentleman' got essentially cancelled after two episodes rating a 2.7 and 2.5. Considering that, and seeing 'Partners' drop to ratings below 2.0, it is a miracle that it made it to 6 episodes before it got cancelled. (However, average ratings for all shows on all networks are much lower than they were last season, but that is an entirely different story.)

Which of these shows are you going to miss? And what others are you happy to see gone? Let me know in the comments!
